crowdSPRING

crowdSPRING is an exciting new marketplace for designers and those looking for design work.  It's a place for logos, business cards, web layout, t-shirts and the like.  What makes this site stand out from the competition (Elance or Task Market) is that designers post actual work samples rather than making bids on the project.  This structure can be of great benefit to both parties.  Less experienced designers can allow their work and creativity speak for itself rather than relying on an impressive resume or relentless networking to land a gig.  At the same time, clients aren't hiring a person they hope will deliver, but can choose which piece they like the best, as well as give feedback to the competing designers in the process.

I think I've figured out where Wax Artistic will be getting it's new logo from.

This is a title

Tidings of a website:
Lots of little things have been getting done on the site, cleaning things up mostly in the Groups section.  I stated a FAQ page (frequently asked questions) in the form of a wiki.  This way people can contribute their own questions and troubleshooting solutions.  It sounded like a good idea when I first heard it, however I wonder how many people would actually post to it.  If nothing else, I'll periodically add to it.

Still no luck with the Drupal forums.  Is it possible that my questions are unanswerable?

Missing link:
Now that gas is over $4 per gallon, I'm avoiding my car like the plague.  It's rough out there.  Fortunately, GasBuddy.com has you back.  They'll show you all the stations in your area in the order of price.

Sightings of creativity and beauty:
Niski-Ki has a handmade keyboard for $155.  Oh, the prices we'll pay for beauty...

Google Promotes Young Artists

Admittedly, this seems like a slightly mainstream post for Wax Artistic, but creativity is still creativity no matter how corporate or self serving... That being said, I was inspired by the ideas of kids all over the country who entered a contest to redesign Google's logo.

Below is one of my favorites from a girl in Iowa.  She describes her work this way, "What if M.C. Escher and his perspective of unreal possibilities became a mascot for Google. He took our understanding of the world around us and re-examined it using his own personal lens. He helps us see possibilities before we could imagine them. Isn't that what Google does today by fostering our own ability to invent and share new ideas?"   Kids say the darndest things!
